I just visited my sister and her boyfriend in New York City for a couple fun days before Christmas! We went to a bar that has been on my bucket list for years, Bemelman’s Bar. This Upper East Side bar was originally opened in 1947 and features incredible hand painted murals by Ludwig Bemelman who illustrated and wrote the Madeline book series. I’m currently reading his book “Hotel Bemelmans” and will discuss this artist and his life in a future podcast episode of Etiquette with Emily. We had a fabulous time sipping wine and cocktails and eating a delicious heaping of warm olives. This was such a festive and fun night that I will always remember!
Photos do not do these murals justice. There is something so special about being this close to historic art. These whimsical paintings were the inspiration behind my Etiquette with Emily logo, illustrated by the ever so talented Holly Hollon. If you ever fin yourself in New York City, Bemelman’s Bar is my number one recommendation! Also, be sure to take some cocktail napkins home with you! I’m going to have one framed so I can enjoy this memory on the daily.
